Former D.C. Councilmember Asks to Travel to Fla. Before Prison

Former D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown is asking a federal judge to let him take one last vacation before he goes to prison.

Brown pleaded guilty to bribery in June. He admitted that he took $55,000 from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen seeking District of Columbia government contracts.

Prosecutors agreed to recommend a maximum 3-year sentence. Brown will be sentenced on Jan. 16.

Before that, he'd like to take a family trip to Florida between Dec. 25 and Jan. 2. His attorneys made the request in a motion filed Tuesday. They say the government does not oppose the motion.

Brown has been barred from traveling more than 25 miles outside the district except for trips to New York that are approved in advance.
