Former DC Child Welfare Agency Head Dies

WASHINGTON -- Sharlynn E. Bobo, a Washington native who led the city's child welfare agency, has died. She was 61.

Her daughter, Danna Bobo-Johnson, of Fredericksburg, Va., said Bobo died of pancreatic cancer on Saturday at Washington Hospital Center.

Bobo joined the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency in 2002 and became director of the agency in 2007.

She stepped down as director last July as the agency grappled with the deaths of several children and a backlog of cases.

Agency spokeswoman Mindy Good said Bobo will be remembered for her deep passion for serving children and families.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday at Metropolitan Baptist Church in northwest Washington.
