Michael Jackson’s former general manager and Marion Barry's one-time press secretary Raymone Bain pled guilty Wednesday to charges that she failed to file income tax returns.
Bain, a D.C. resident, entered the pleas in U.S District Court here in Washington. She pleaded guilty to one count of failure to file federal income tax returns and one count of failure to file District of Columbia income tax returns.
The pleas were announced today by the office of U.S. Attorney Ray Machen, Jr.
According to evidence presented in court and court documents, Bain failed to pay income taxes from the period of 2006 through 2008, with an estimated tax loss between $200,000 and $400,000.
Bain worked in the sports and entertainment industry in the District of Columbia, where she founded her public relations firm, Davis, Bain & Associates. Beginning in 2006, she became personal manager for entertainer Michael Jackson. She also became president of the Michael Jackson Company, and was responsible for daily operations of the enterprise, including financial, public relations and marketing tasks.
Bain is also a former press secretary and advisor for former mayor (and current D.C. Council member) Marion Barry.
Sentencing for Bain is set for August 31. The federal tax violation carries a maximum penalty of 12 months in prison and a $100,000 fine. The D.C. violation carries a maximum sentence of 6 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
