Fluctuating Weather Cancels Laurel Park Racing

The recent fluctuating temperatures have created unsafe conditions at Laurel Park for horse racing, according to the Maryland Jockey Club.

Live racing at the facility has been cancelled for Saturday, January 11.

Director of Racing Georganne Hale said the track has been freezing, thawing, and freezing again.

“The combination of the freezing and the moisture are the contributing factors. We couldn’t even get a piece of equipment out on the track. They were just sinking.”

Laurel, and its sister track, Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting. Live racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
