Confederate Flag Idea Doesn't Fly

Confederate depiction will be painted over

The Confederate flag in a mural didn't fly in Fredericksburg, Va.

The new Muvico Theater includes a Civil War-themed bar, and the mural was painted on the wall of an outside seating area.

The mural included the U.S. flag on one side, a Confederate flag on the other, stars, an eagle and other adornments.

The idea was to depict the separation and reuniting of the Union and the Confederacy, said Muvico General Manager Kris Knox. But people complained about the Confederate flag part of the mural even before the artwork was completed, Knox said.

So a change has been authorized, The Free-Lance Star reported. The mural will be reworked with a Virginia flag covering the Confederate flag, Knox said.
