Fiery Crash Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized

The single vehicle accident happened on Route 28 at Mount Ephraim Road

A fiery crash left one person dead and another person in serious condition, Montgomery County police said.

The single vehicle accident happened about 1 a.m. June 5 on Route 28 at Mount Ephraim Road in Dickerson, Md., authorities said. The vehicle left the road, struck a stone railroad bridge overpass and caught fire.

Witnesses managed to pull one person from the car before it became completely engulfed in flames, police said.

Officials pronounced the driver, 20-year-old Daria Yuryevna Soboleva, dead at the scene and transported the passenger, 23-year-old Oscar Armando Chavez Martinez, in serious condition to an area hospital. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators are still determining what caused the crash.

It's not clear if speed was a factor in this crash, but it has been an issued in the area before, News4's Melissa Mollet reported. Several weeks ago Montgomery County asked the state for a permit to install speed cameras along the stretch of roadway. The request was granted Tuesday afternoon. A warning camera will be placed there Wednesday to be followed by a camera that issues tickets.

Soboleva was a Russian citizen spending the summer in Ocean City, Md.
