Fireworks Under Fire

DC fire chief suggests you leave the fireworks to the pros

You know those beautiful fireworks displays that light up the sky on the Fourth of July? You love them. Your friends and family love them. The District’s fire chief probably loves them too; he just loves when there are professionals in charge of them.

D.C. Fire Chief Dennis Rubin wants to ban all consumer fireworks in the city.

“We don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade because there are some great fireworks demonstrations, such as the Mall,” Rubin told WTOP.

Similar bans are already in effect in Baltimore, Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County.

More than 2,300 kids were hurt playing with fireworks nationwide in 2006.
