Fire Hydrant Christened

Some residents in Northwest gathered Saturday to christen a new, working fire hydrant.

About half a dozen people broke out the champagne for the new fire hydrant off Porter Street and Rock Creek Park Road.

The community said they’ve been trying to replace the broke hydrant for a about three years.

The residents said the problem started about the same time a prominent Washingtonian, Peggy Cooper-Cafritz, lost her house in a fierce fire in July 2009.

She's filed a $30 million lawsuit claiming there wasn't enough water pressure for the fire department to put out the flames.
