Fire Equipment Freezes at NW DC Rowhouse Fire

D.C. firefighters had to use road flares to defrost hydrants and ladders while battling a fire in northwest Washington, D.C., early Sunday morning.

Crews were called to the 3600 block of Park Place Northwest sometime after 5 a.m. Sunday for a fire at a rowhome. The fire was located on the second floor and rear porch.

One resident was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a second person evaluated at the scene. Officials said four people were displaced by the fire.

Extra units were called to the scene to cycle out crews because of the cold. Water used to fight the fire also landed on equipment, causing firefighters to use road flares to thaw out the items.
