Four Firefighters Hospitalized After Leesburg Fire

Firefighters battled a fire in Leesburg, Va., that destroyed a home and was hot enough to melt the siding of a nearby residence Thursday afternoon.

Five firefighters from Loudoun County Fire Rescue were treated on scene for heat exhaustion and minor injuries. Four of them were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The family evacuated before firefighters arrived. The fire displaced two adults, three children and four dogs, who are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire broke out shortly after noon at a home in the 18000 block of Castle Guard Court in Leesburg. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames and smoke billowing from the rear of the home.

The fire extended to the second floor, and the home collapsed during the blaze. Firefighters as wekk as the Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office remained on scene through the afternoon

A civilian suffered minor injuries while walking near the scene and was transported to a hospital for check-out.
