Bikes Stolen From Fenty's Home

Mayor finds even he isn't immune to crime

Mayor Adrian Fenty’s war on crime just got personal.

Three thieves made off with two of the mayor’s mountain bikes, according to the Washington Examiner. They stole them right from the garage at his Crestwood-area home earlier this month.

Adding insult to injury: the mayor’s security detail was guarding the house at the time of the theft. It’s not clear whether Fenty was home at the time, but his wife apparently was.

Adding more insult to injury:  the thieves apparently left two other bikes at the scene in order to nab Fenty's wheels, according to the Examiner.

Fenty spokeswoman Mafara Hobson told the Associated Press that an officer guarding the home followed proper procedure when the bikes were stolen.

The incident took about 20 seconds and was captured by security cameras, according to Hobson, who added that the Fenty's take full responsibility for leaving the garage open.

The police union said an officer is being investigated for neglect of duty after the incident, according to the AP.

Police are now reviewing the surveillance video in hopes of nabbing the thieves.
