Fenty Already Raised $2 Million for Re-Election Bid

Want a new mayor in 2010? Well your best option, then, is to move to another city altogether.

Fundraising documents released late Monday night show that D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty has already raised over $2 million in donations for his 2010 re-election bid, only three months after starting his big push. For perspective, Fenty raised $3.9 million for his entire 2006 campaign -- and that was when people still had money.

Who are these people with all of this money, so much of it that they can carelessly donate the maximum $2,000 to an incumbent Democratic mayor in a heavily Democratic city without even breaking a sweat? There are already approximately 750 of these maxed-out donors, and 2,126 donors total.

Impossibly enough, the donors appear to come from the most devastated "rich people" sectors of the economy:

D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, whose populist 2006 campaign was spurred by a record number of small donations, is now raising large sums for his reelection effort from a bevy of developers and law firms and a handful of Wall Street titans.

Uh oh. Sounds like we the taxpayers will have to give more money to Wall Street, now that Fenty has taken most of it.

Anyway, congratulations to Mayor Fenty for more or less winning his 2010 election already!
