Fauquier County Authorities Expect Arrest in 1980 Murder

Fauquier County authorities said they've solved a 32-year-old cold case.

Commonwealth's Attorney Jim Fisher and Sheriff Charlie Ray Fox Jr. said Monday warrants were being issued in the New Year's Eve 1980 slaying of Brad Baker at Kinloch Farm. Baker managed the farm at the estate owned by relatives of Stephen Currier of the famed Currier and Ives prints.

Fisher and Fox said they planned to extradite the male suspect from West Virginia. They refused to release further details on the suspect until a Tuesday news conference.

They said new investigative techniques and avenues of inquiry led to them to the suspect.

The 30-year-old Baker was found with shots to his head and groin, with the front door window panes smashed out of the two-story farmhouse where he lived.
