Father, Son Found Dead in Virginia Home

A man found shot to death along with his son in their Virginia home Friday is described by friends as an immigrant success story who loved the country so much he named his son America.

“I couldn't see anybody ever having ill will toward Duong or America,” said his friend, Phil Shremshock.

Relatives traveling abroad asked the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office to check on 61-year-old Duong Nguyen and 22-year-old America Nguyen at their Bealeton home. America Nguyen was last heard from when he communicated with someone through social media Wednesday evening.

“It's disturbing; it's alarming,” Sgt. James Hartman said. “The neighbors are concerned, rightfully so. This type of thing doesn't normally happen here.”

There was no sign of forced entry at the home.

“That's scary,” a neighbor said. “That's definitely scary, because then you wonder were they targeted or was this something like a robbery. Do we have anything in this neighborhood to worry about?”

Shremshock said he’s still in shock. The men worked together as cabinetmakers for years. He's been in touch with Nguyen's wife and daughter, who returned from a trip to Vietnam when they got the tragic news.

Duong Nguyen became a U.S. citizen after fleeing North Vietnam, Shremshock said.

“He was a hardworking man,” Shremshock said. “He wanted to provide for his family, provide for his children, make them have a good future here in the United States.”
