A young Lexington Park, Md. father is accused of abusing his baby daughter so severely that investigators believe he caused the little girl’s death.
Brian Hart, 21, is charged with Child Abuse in the First Degree Resulting in Death.
On Thursday, four-month-old Brooke Leigh died at Georgetown University Medical Center. She was airlifted there four days earlier after suffering from an unknown life-threatening condition.
Doctors who treated Brooke believed that her injuries appeared to be a result of child abuse and not a natural illness or accident. They contacted social services and police.
An autopsy of Brooke by D.C.’s Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the doctors' suspicions.
Brooke’s father was arrested for his daughter’s death. Investigators say more charges could be pending against him.
