Fatal Stabbing at Psychiatric Facility in McLean

Witness says dispute was over money

An apparent dispute over money ended when one patient of a psychiatric facility stabbed another one to death, according to witnesses.

The alleged stabbing took place Thursday morning where people smoke behind Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services on Old Meadow Road in McLean, Va.

A 24-year-old man stabbed 57-year-old Grady Vickers, police said. Both were at the facility for its psychiatric services.

Ryan Charney, who said he knows the victim and witnessed the attack, said it was about money.

“He was asking for money and he just grabbed a kitchen knife from the kitchen and stabbed him,” Charney said.

Vickers stayed at the scene and was arrested by police.

It’s unclear whether Vickers had a violent history or what security precautions are taken at PRS.

PRS helps people with mental illness, including severe forms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Officials there would not comment on the incident.
