Fatal Friday Crash on Beltway Inner Loop Near Connecticut Avenue

Collision happened 3 a.m. Friday

A tractor trailer and car were involved in a fatal accident 3 a.m. Friday, on the Beltway Inner Loop near Connecticut Avenue.

The crash forced the closure of the Beltway Inner Loop for several hours, between Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue.

Officials said the driver of the car has died.  Police also said that one of the vehicles caught fire.

An accident investigation team arrived around 6 a.m., and delays could continue through the morning rush.

Update 8 a.m. - Rubbernecking causing delays on the Outer Loop from College Park to Georgia Avenue.  The Inner Loop is jammed from I270 to Connecticut Avenue.  Vehicles traveling slower than 10 mph in both directions.  Inner Loop entrance and exit ramps at Connecticut Avenue are closed.

Update 11 a.m. - The early morning crash was cleared, but another accident on the Outer Loop near Georgia Avenue has slowed traffic.
