Crash involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger car

A two-vehicle crash on I-95 in Fairfax County has resulted in one confirmed fatality, Virginia State Police said.

The crash involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger car. Police arrived at the scene shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of the passnger car, a Kia, died at the scene. She has been identified as Sara M. Jones, 29, of Woodbridge, Va.

A witness said the Kia pulled into the path of the tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved but couldn't avoid the Kia, and went down an embankment and jackknifed. The Kia came to rest at the edge of the right shoulder.

The 49-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two southbound lanes were closed but reopened by 3:30 p.m. The A crash reconstruction team is helping to investigate into the cause of the accident.
