Tow Truck, Car in Fatal Crash in Beltsville

Police spent Friday morning on the scene of a double fatal accident in Beltsville, Md.

About 1:30 a.m., a passenger vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 1/Baltimore Avenue when the driver crossed the double yellow lines and crashed into a tow truck traveling northbound near Powder Mill Road and became engulfed in flames.

One victim in the car was ejected, while the other was burned inside the vehicle. Prince George's County firefighters extinguished the flames.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are working to determine which victim was driving. Neither victim's identity has been released yet.

The tow truck driver received non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection cleared shortly before 9 a.m.
