Family of Slain ODU Student Asks For Public's Help

20-year-old was nephew of Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings

Family members of an Old Dominion University student shot to death last year are pressing for more information that might lead to solving the case.

Christopher Cummings' parents, James and Rosa, and his uncle, Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, joined Norfolk police over the weekend at the rental home in Norfolk where the 20-year-old student was killed and his roommate was injured this past June 10.

"There is a person - or persons - who brutally killed my nephew and James and Rosa's son," Rep. Cummings told The Virginian-Pilot newspaper. "We cannot begin to express the pain we still feel."

The family and Norfolk police Sgt. Wayne Handley on Saturday asked that anyone with information contact Norfolk police. In the meantime, Handley said, Norfolk police continue the search for leads, evidence, and answers.

"We do know that there are people out there who have information," Handley told The Virginian-Pilot. "I'm optimistic [the investigation] will end well."
