Fairfax County Serial Burglar Strikes Again

Four More Homes Hit While Residents Slept

Imagine waking up to find out someone had broken into your home and made off with your valuables. That nightmare has become true for a growing number of people living in Fairfax County.

A prolific serial burglar seems to be gaining momentum.

There have been 57 break-ins or attempted break-ins in a little more than a month. Most recently, three homes were broken into sometime late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

The first homes were hit Aug. 24 in the Clifton area, and have continued about every other night in neighborhoods across the county, including the Fair Oaks, McLean, Reston and Sully districts.

Police believe the same suspect is also responsible for 30 other incidents, including stealing from cars. Cash, handbags and other small valuable items are the most common items stolen, but handguns were taken in at least two cases.

No one has been hurt -- though the overnight intruder has certainly rattled the nerves of neighbors across the area.
