A board that oversees two Washington-region airports and is handling the construction of a multibillion-dollar Metrorail extension to Washington Dulles International Airport will expand by four members after a vote by the D.C. Council.
The Council on Tuesday approved the measure that will allow the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to grow from 13 members to 17, according to the Associated Press.
Washington and Maryland will each get one more seat on the board, and Virginia will get two. Congress and the Virginia General Assembly have passed bills to expand the board, but additional board members could not take their seats without the District of Columbia's approval. Maryland wasn't part of the vote on the change because it's not part of the compact that created MWAA.
The agency also oversees Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
