Ex-Middle School Employee Accused of Rape, Sex Offenses Involving Students

A former employee at a middle school in Charles County, Maryland, is facing rape and other sex offense charges after two female students came forward with allegations, police say.

Anthony Tyrone Williams Jr., 23, was arrested at his home in Waldorf on Thursday.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office said Williams was an instructional assistant at Mattawoman Middle School on Berry Road when he was accused of making inappropriate comments to a student in January. Williams was immediately removed from the school and placed in an administrative position, a school spokesperson said. He then quit his job two weeks later during the police investigation.

A second student reported "inappropriate contact" with Williams during the investigation, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said Williams sent inappropriate text messages while at the middle school, but the inappropriate contact did not happen there.

Williams was charged with second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense, obscene telephone misuse, stalking and other related charges.

Deputies say parents should talk with their children and anyone with more information about Williams should call 301-609-6498.

A school spokesperson said Williams underwent a thorough background check before he was hired in September 2018.
