Empty Chair “Lynchings” in Virginia, Texas

There have been two publicized incidents of empty chairs being hung from trees -- a symbol that references President Barack Obama.

Incidents in Centreville, Va. and Austin, Tx. have some saying that the displays actually symbolize lynching and are racially offensive depictions of the country's first African American president.

The chairs refer to Clint Eastwood's speech at the Republican National Convention where he pretended to address the president by speaking to an empty chair.

The Texas chair is in front of a home, while the one in Virginia is on private property near a park but no one seems to know who put it there.
