The D.C. Council passed emergency legislation Tuesday to allow two special needs students to continue playing football for Wilson High School.
Lewis Flor and Kasper Tuomala attend the Lab School, which does not have a football team. So for the past two years they've been allowed to play for Wilson.
“It really means a lot,” Lewis said. “Me and Kasper really deserve this because our parents, they really worked so hard to get us this.”
This year, D.C. public schools restricted participation on public school teams to public school students.
Mayor Vincent Gray wrote a letter to the Council opposing the bill that would allow the students to play, arguing it could open the door for more students who don't attend public school to play.
