Ellipse Redesign Plan Selected

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE A plan has been selected that will redesign the Ellipse area near the White House.

New York-based Rogers Marvel's winning design will raise the height of the park and add a viewing wall that pedestrians can sit on. The firm’s plan beat out more than 20 other proposals.

The redesign means concrete barriers and rusted fencing along E Street, put in place after Sept. 11, 2001, would be removed.

The plan now must be approved by both the National Park Service and the Secret Service.

It's possible that some elements from other design proposals could be encorporated.
