An elderly woman was assaulted inside a senior living facility in Prince George's County and police are investigating.
The woman was attacked Friday night or early Saturday at Arbor Terrace Senior Living on Greenbelt Road in Lanham, police said.
"She was left there to be taken care of, not to be hurt. So that's very concerning to us," Cpl. Nicholas Clayton said.
The county police department has a special unit that investigates assaults on senior citizens. They are working with the family of the victim, Clayton said.
An Arbor Terrace staff member discovered the injured woman while conducting routine checks Saturday morning, a spokeswoman said.
"We immediately contacted the police and called for an ambulance. In an abundance of caution, we have added nighttime security," a statement from the company said.
They said they think of residents like "family."

This appears to be an isolated incident, police said. They're asking the public to contact them with any information, or if they know others who have been victims. No information on a suspect or the circumstances of the assault were immediately released.
