Capitol Heights Councilwoman Arrested, Charged With Traffic Offenses

An elected official from Maryland was arrested over the weekend and charged with several traffic offenses.

Elaine Scott Williams, a councilwoman in the town of Capitol Heights, was pulled over around 10:20 p.m. Friday on Capitol Heights Boulevard for a minor traffic violation, police said.

The officer discovered that Williams, 60, was driving on a suspended license. She was also wanted through the Maryland Transportation Authority for failing to appear on a previous traffic violation, Prince George's County Police said.

Williams was arrested and taken to the Department of Corrections.

She was released on her own recognizance.
