Dude, Where's My Car?

Dealership closes, couple's car disappears

A Maryland couple is searching for answers after a car dealership closed and their car, which was being repaired, disappeared off the lot.

Renee and Albert Wilson said they had already paid the dealer, Henry Gay Jeep Suzuki in Laurel, Md., $1,400 for repair work that had been going on since June 2008. When Albert went to pick up the car, he found the dealership had gone under.

As it turns out, the owners of Henry Gay couldn’t meet their financial obligations to Chrysler, so the business shut down and Chrysler took the remaining new cars on the lot.

The Wilsons say their 1995 Chrysler Eagle Vision was also taken. The car was intended as a first car for the couple’s 15-year-old son.

“A gentleman who cleans cars for [the dealership] saw the car being towed away on a flat bed,” Renee Wilson said.

The couple said they’ve filed a police report and contacted Chrysler, to no avail.

One of the dealership’s owners said he doesn’t know where the Wilson’s car is. He said he’s devastated by their loss and the loss of the dealership’s 53 jobs.

The Maryland Attorney General’s office said the most likely recourse for the Wilsons is to find out who Henry Gay’s insurers are and file a claim.
