Five ducklings rescued from a Bristol creek polluted by a sewage spill have died.
The city's Animal Control removed the ducklings from Little Creek on Monday and took them to Smith Creek Wildlife Rehab Center.
The center's operator, Dianne Andis, told media outlets that the ducklings died Tuesday. There was an oily substance on the ducklings' feathers, and the ducklings might have ingested it, she said.
A preliminary report released Tuesday by the BVU Authority says grease clogged the sewer manhole system, causing an overflow into the creek. The source of the grease hasn't been determined.
Sewage and wastewater from the manhole system entered the creek on Saturday. The spill remains under investigation.
