Driver Trapped in Car After Utility Pole With Live Wires Falls In Maryland

A driver was trapped in his car in Montgomery County Wednesday morning after a utility pole with live wires crashed onto the vehicle.

The man was driving on Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville when a wooden pole slammed down. The pole fell over the silver sedan, coming to rest on the sunroof.

Chopper4 footage shows that the windshield shattered.

Montgomery County firefighters had to take off the driver's side door to get the man out of the car. They eased him onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. He was treated for minor injuries, a spokesman for the fire department said.

A dead tree fell onto utility lines, causing the nearest pole to fall onto the passing car, according to the fire department.

Old Columbia Pike was closed between Old Briggs Chaney Road and Duvall Road, near Paint Branch High School.
