Driver Charged for Faulty Brakes in Crash That Injured Police Officer

Authorities say that Nii Aryee Mensah, 50, went through a red light and struck a police cruiser

A Woodbridge driver has been charged for having faulty brakes following an accident that injured a Prince William County police officer.

Authorities say that Nii Aryee Mensah, 50, went through a red light at the intersection Gideon Drive and Smoketown Road in Woodbridge, striking the cruiser of an on-duty officer around 4 a.m. Thursday.

The officer temporarily lost consciousness and was flown to an area hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. She has since been released from the hospital.

Following the investigation, Mensah was arrested and charged with reckless driving - bad brakes.

Mensah's court date is set for Feb. 13.
