Downed Power Lines Closed the Beltway in Virginia

495 is now open in both directions.

The Beltway is now open in both directions in Virginia after downed power lines caused a closure early this morning.

Traffic near Tysons Corner was rerouted to Routes 7 and 66 after a crane brought down the power lines around 1:30AM.
A Dominion Power Spokesperson says the crane belonged to a contractor working on the HOT Lanes project near 66.

The lines were temporarily repaired just after 4:30AM and all lanes were reopened. Dominion Power is planning on making more permanent repairs to the line at a later date, when work won't impact traffic.

Dominion reported less than 200 customers without power in Vienna, Oakton and Falls Church due to the accident.  Power was quickly restored to those residents.
