Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Lockdown

Officials say Dover Air Force Base remains on lockdown after a suspicious person was reported on the Delaware post but that there is no report of an active shooter.

Military officials say in a news release that the lockdown was ordered Thursday morning as a precautionary measure after a suspicious individual was reported around 11 a.m. It remained in effect early afternoon as personnel were told to shelter in place.

Base spokeswoman Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Morris says there was no report of an active shooter and that the housing side of the base wasn't on lockdown.

The base operates one of the largest and busiest air freight terminals in the U.S. military. It is home to the nation's largest military mortuary and is the arrival point for the remains of troops who have died overseas.
