Dominion Reconsiders Route of Northern Virginia Power Lines

Dominion Energy is no longer seeking to build power lines through a northern Virginia community where descendants of a freed slave have lived for decades.

The Washington Post reported the company is instead asking for permission to build the 230,000-volt lines along Interstate 66, according to a statement that accompanied a legal filing with the State Corporation Commission.

Dominion said the route along Carver Road in Prince William County that would have affected the descendants of Livinia Blackburn Johnson is "not constructible," because of the reluctance from county officials to grant necessary easements.

The power line is tied to plans for a new data center in the Haymarket area.

In a statement to News4, Dominion Energy said, “Through this filing, we are updating the Commission that the construction of the Carver Road route is not possible given Prince William County’s denial of needed easements. Because Carver Road, the Commission’s approved route, is not constructible, we are asking the SCC to amend its Final Order and approve construction of the Haymarket Transmission Line Project via the I-66 Overhead Route.”
