Reward Offered After Dog Set on Fire

Body of dog found on curb

A dog was set on fire in Prince George's County, and county officials are asking for the public's help solving the case.

The body of the dog was found on the 12500 block of Proxmire Drive in Fort Washington, Md., on June 20. Police said the small, male breed dog was found on the edge of the street near the curb completely burned with pieces of duct tape on the ear and on one side of the body. Officials couldn't tell the exact breed of the dog due to the burning, but it appeared to be a Miniature Pinscher, Chihuahua or mixed breed. The dog was not wearing an ID and did not have a microchip.

"Cases like this show a callous disregard for life and the perpetrator represents a threat to both the animals and the people in our community," said Prince George's Department of Environmental Resources Director Samuel Wynkoop, Jr. "We hope someone comes forward with information to help us solve this case."

Officials said they will be back in the neighborhood on Thursday to hand out flyers with hopes of getting more tips or information.  They said they want to find the person or persons who did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

"If you do that to an animal, who knows what you'll do next," one official said.
