Dog Dies, 2 Firefighters Transported After Northwest DC Apartment Fire

A dog died during a fire at a large D.C. apartment building Saturday night.

The blaze happened on the seventh floor of an eight-story building in the 1600 block of Columbia Road NW, just south of Mount Pleasant.

Residents were evacuated and none were reported injured. However, two firefighters were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

D.C. Fire & EMS said a dog died, but did not specify how.

Officials said the cause of the fire was accidental. They said it began in a kitchen.

Firefighters are currently working to allow residents back into their apartments in unaffected parts of the building.
