Deputies: 2 Men Responsible for 72-Hour Crime Spree

St. Mary's County deputies apprehended one of two men believed to be responsible for a 72-hour-long string of shootings in Lexington Park, Maryland.

Saturday, police responded to reports of a single gunshot fired on Lucca Way, but found no evidence.

The next day, officers discovered a car with its rear windshield smashed in and also responded to new reports of gunshots. Witnesses say a few men fired multiple rounds on Saturday afternoon, one of them striking a vehicle.

Sunday evening, 21-year-old Jeremy Neal was shot in the chest on North Essex Drive by an unknown assailant in a dark colored car. He was later transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Fifteen minutes later, Maxwell Heyliger approached the EMT personnel treating Neal. He said while he was driving a few miles away, his car was shot at twice, with one of the bullets hitting his hand.

Early Monday morning, police responded to more reports of gunshots, this time directed at a residence. An investigation revealed that unknown suspects fired rounds at a home as they drove by. No one was hurt.

St. Mary’s County deputies now believe that Antonio Wendell Chase and Sidney Antwan Strain are connected to all of these shootings. They apprehended Chase Tuesday.

Both men were already wanted on unrelated charges.

Police are asking anyone with information about Strain's whereabouts to call 301-475- 4040 or 911 in the case of an emergency. They stress that individuals should not approach Strain. Callers can remain anonymous and tips leading to an arrest can result in a $1,000 reward.
