Deputies Searching for Suspect Who Shot Guest at Private Party

The shooting happened at a wedding and event venue inside a large park in Sterling, Virginia

A large search is underway for a suspect who fired a gun at an event and wedding venue in Sterling, Virginia, Saturday night, authorities say.

The suspect was at a private party at the Woodlands at Algonkian at 47001 Fairway Drive when he got into a confrontation with another guest and shot them, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Medics took the victim to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies are searching for the suspect, who ran from the scene.

The event space is along the banks of the Potomac River and is surrounded by a large park area with a golf course, camp sites, trails and sports fields. The Volcano Island Waterpark is also nearby.

The sheriff's office said it is working with the victim to identify the suspect and provide a description to the public as soon as possible.

It was not clear what type of event was being held at the venue at the time of the shooting.
