Democrat Leads in Montgomery Special Election

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Democrat Nancy Navarro holds a lead in unofficial results in the special election in Montgomery County to fill an open seat on the county council.

According to results posted on Board of Elections returns page Tuesday night, Navarro has 6,637 votes, or 63.36 percent of the total.

Republican Robin Ficker has 3,423 votes, 32.68 percent of the total. Green Party candidate George Gluck has 372 votes, and there were 43 write-in votes.

The seat became vacant when Councilman Donald Praisner died in January, after colon cancer surgery. He had won a special election last spring to fill the position that his wife, Marilyn, held for 17 years until she died.
