Fatal Accident Shuts Down BW Parkway

Man killed, woman injured

A man is dead and a woman injured after a car that stopped on the shoulder of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway was hit by another car.

Park Police say a car pulled onto the shoulder in the northbound lanes near Greenbelt Road so the driver and a passenger could switch positions. After they exited, another car rammed the car and the two passengers.

Gary Richards, 38, was killed and a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another person inside the stopped car was not injured. The striking car stayed at the scene.

Police closed the parkway for almost three hours to investigate but it has since reopened.

Richards was well-known in D.C. nightlife. He was a local representative for Ciroq Vodka -- the liquor brand run by Sean Combs.
