DeOnte Rawlings's Family Reaches Settlement in Principle

Teen shot by off-duty police

A settlement, in principle, has been reached between D.C. and the family of DeOnte Rawlings, officials said.

DeOnte was 14 when he was shot and killed by off-duty police officers in 2007. Police said the boy stole a dirt bike and fired first at them. No gun was found at the scene.

The officers were cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, but DeOnte’s family filed a $100 million civil lawsuit against the District.

The settlement is for less than $1 million, sources said.
