D.C.'s Turner Elementary Like New After $30M Renovation

Renovation included new computers and basketball and tennis courts

Students at Turner Elementary School in Southeast D.C. started the 2012 academic year in a school building that's been renovated extensively.

The $30 million spent on the project paid for smart boards and computers in all classrooms and a new kitchen and gym. There are also new outdoor play spaces, including basketball and tennis courts and playgrounds.

The renovation project also includes new electrical, plumbing and fire-protection systems. The elementary school on Stanton Road in Ward 8 educates approximately 300 children.
