D.C. Police Arrest Gang Members After Long-Term Investigation

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said 13 gang members from southeast D.C. are in jail after indictments were served in the Benning Terrace neighborhood.

The list of what they're being charged with is long and serious: conspiracy, assault, second-degree murder and first-degree murder, just to name a few.

Lanier said these arrests were the result of a long-term investigation. Some of the crimes they're based on took place more than 18 months ago.

Lanier said this is a significant case that will make the Benning Terrace neighborhood safer, but she won't say where the people arrested today rank – whether they were kingpins or simply lieutenants within their respective gangs.
