DUI Suspect Drove on Railroad Tracks With 2-Year-Old Daughter, Sheriff Says

An accused drunken driver took a ride on railroad tracks in Virginia Saturday night with two passengers in the car, including his 2-year-old daughter, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Driver Corvonte Morales, 28, and Ronnica Smith, 30, were taken into custody after their car became stuck on the tracks at Brent Point Road and Arkendale Road about 9:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Both adults appeared to be heavily intoxicated, and officials conducted sobriety tests on the scene. Morales admitted to having consumed several drinks at a nearby winery prior to driving. He told officials he had turned right on to the tracks after confusing them with the road.

Morales had slapped Smith across the face before the deputy arrived, a paramedic on scene said. He was taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail on six charges, including driving under the influence, child abuse, and domestic assault and battery.

Smith was very unsteady and almost dropped the child several times, according to the sheriff's office. She was taken into custody with Morales on charges of public intoxication, child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

There were no reported injuries.

A family member took in the child, according to the sheriff’s office.
