DNA Ties Suspect to Attack on Senior Citizen

84-year-old victim bit attacker on the hand

A man is in custody after DNA evidence tied him to a February attack on an 84-year-old woman, Prince George's County Police announced Thursday.

Police say the victim laid on the floor of her Suitland home for more than a day before a neighbor saw her door open and called police.

The victim told authorities that on Feb. 1, she'd let in a man who claimed to be a neighbor, but he forced his way inside and physically assaulted her. She fought back, biting him on the hand before he stole money and fled.

She sustained multiple injuries, but the bite on her assailant's head led police to a suspect. Police say they used DNA evidence from blood left at the scene to tie Rodney William Blanton, 56, to the crime.

Blanton was arrested at his home Aug. 30. He has been charged with first degree assault, first degree burglary, robbery and other charges. He is being held without bond.
