DC Shuts Down Three Used Car Dealerships

Dealerships owe thousands

WASHINGTON -- D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's administration shut down three used car dealerships that owe thousands in fines Monday.

The Department of Motor Vehicles stripped the dealerships of their registrations in June after they failed to pay a combined $30,700 in fines, according to Fenty's office. The dealerships did not maintain proper insurance on vehicles.

A mayoral order announced the immediate suspension of the business licenses for Excellence Motors Inc., Solomon Motors and Star Auto Sales Inc. All three dealerships are in Northeast.

The dealerships may have been backdrops for illicit activities, according to the mayor's office.
