WASHINGTON -- In an effort to avoid a return to federal control, the District's Child and Family Services Agency has reduced its backlog of investigations open more than 30 days, fulfilling agreements made in a court order.
There was aggressive hiring to fill openings; the signing of a contract with a group headed by a nationally respected consultant; and starting a search for a director.
City statistics indicate that the summer's high of some 1,700 investigations that were backlogged has gone down to 652. The court agreement said the backlog must be down to 600 by Nov. 15 and 100 by Dec. 31.
