D.C. Workshop to Address Strategies for Stops by Police

Civil liberties groups are teaching District of Columbia residents about ways they can protect themselves during tense encounters with police.

The groups say more than 175 people have signed up for a workshop on Thursday night in southeast Washington.

The founder of a group called Flex Your Rights will lead the discussion. Steve Silverman is also the creator of a video called "10 Rules for Dealing with Police.'' The ACLU will also participate.

Silverman will speak to attendees about what to do when they're stopped by police, including how to shoot video of police officers and how to respond to police misconduct.

The event was scheduled in response to recent killings of unarmed black men by police that have provoked national discussion and protests.
