Broken Water Main Closes Part of 14th Street

DC Water Searches for Broken Main in Northwest

DC Water spent hours Thursday searching for a broken main that left a block of 14th Street NW without water. News4's Jackie Bensen reports. (Published Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015)

Several establishments in one of D.C.’s busiest restaurant corridors were closed Thursday night while DC Water crews repaired a broken water main.

The break affected 10 commercial businesses on 14th Street between R and S streets in Northwest, including Red Light, Peregrine Coffee and the wine bar Cork, which had this exchange with DC Water via Twitter:

Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans also joined the conversation:

Despite jackhammering and lots of manhole lifting, the source of the water main break eluded crews, which painstakingly examined the decades-old underground pipe system late into the evening.

By 5 a.m., crews located and repaired two leaks.
