Several establishments in one of D.C.’s busiest restaurant corridors were closed Thursday night while DC Water crews repaired a broken water main.
The break affected 10 commercial businesses on 14th Street between R and S streets in Northwest, including Red Light, Peregrine Coffee and the wine bar Cork, which had this exchange with DC Water via Twitter:
Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans also joined the conversation:
@GeorgeHawkinsDC & @dcwater Anything you can do to expedite this would be very helpful @CorkDC @midcitydogdays @peregrinedc @ANC2F

Despite jackhammering and lots of manhole lifting, the source of the water main break eluded crews, which painstakingly examined the decades-old underground pipe system late into the evening.
By 5 a.m., crews located and repaired two leaks.
